Abandoned Water Treatment Plant from Germany - 20 years Later
Published by Water Network Research, Official research team of The Water Network in Technology
The old wastewater treatment plant of a small German town. It was also the former water-processing unit of a huge power station and the big tanks in the outside area of the plant are silent witnesses of the old industry.
Where thousands of liters of water had flown through the pumping system in the past, now dominates complete silence.

The "filters" were not trickling filters, but sand filters for the removal of suspended solids. The backwash was sent to the clarifiers (not aeration basins) for solids settling. This was probably a water filtration plant, not a biological wastewater treatment plant.
