Using bioaugmentation as the star of a preventive maintenance program would prevent this from ever occurring.  Fat is simply a food source for our bacteria.  They break the FOGs (Fats, Oils, and Greases) down into carbon dioxide and water.  There is no bad effect on piping whatsoever.  And the cost of a preventive maintenance program is a tiny fraction of the cost incurred in this operation!  I can provide a formal case study upon request to document these benefits.
