I'd like to know too (just started volunteering for a non-profit, greenempowerment.org, that enables communities for clean water, renewable energy, and hygiene.  One question is whether solar powered toilets would be a better alternative to septic tanks (I know this is not the question asked). When I was hiking down the Grand Canyon, I found these and the park ranger told me it is effective, eliminates the seepage in the ground/Colorado river,  and reduces the effort required to "clean" (compared to traditional pit/chemical toilets).

Dear Mr. Narasimha Kumar,

Thanks for your concern and sharing the information. I do think, as mentioned by you that solar powered toilets can be a better alternative to septic tanks and may require less efforts to clean as compared to traditional pit/chemical toilets.

This can be used for new toilets where there is space depending upon the scenerio.  But here we need to find a solution for the septage which is being collected from Septic Tanks. Once again thanking you and request you to keep in touch please and provide your valuable suggestions.
