Published by in Maintenance

What can I do about the scaling caused by using Calcium Hypochlorite -Ca(OCl)2 - for water treatment applications.

Kind regards,
Ruaan

You could try a descaler ...

You could try a descaler that my company manufactures. It is non-toxic and bio-degradable.

The simplest answer is to ...

The simplest answer is to just adjust your pH lower. Add an HCl feed just before you add the CaCO3 and your scaling problem will disappear.

Dear Mr. Ruaan,  Good day ...

Dear Mr. Ruaan,

Good day ,

Regarding to your question could you please where are you utilizing a calcium hypochlorite  -

you need to check from LSI value and you need to keep this value between -0.03 to 0.03 in case the value of LSI above 0.03 and more than 2  the scale are going to form you need to adjust the value of pH or you need to prepare a sodium hypochlorite from a calcium hypochlorite by adding a sodium bicarbonate and sodium hydroxide in previous mixer

please note Mr. Ruaan there is a lot's of solution but first we need to know more details about your problem for that if you are interesting please send for me more details on my email

I suggest; (1). Consider ...

I suggest;

(1). Consider the pre-treatment of  Calcium Hypochlorite. As a powder, dissolving it in water and getting the filtrate with no traces of the lime powder in it. Then use it and an appropriate pH adjuster to maintain the pH close to 7.

(2). Or use Sodium Hypochlorite and an appropriate pH adjuster to maintain the pH close to 7 to treat your water.

Rather try using sodium ...

Rather try using sodium hypochlorite in future. NCP can produce it at a concentration of 30% or more. Make sure you dilute it on delivery because the higher the concentration the quicker it degrades. Although it has a high pH the sodium is more soluble and prevents the scaling.

Dear ruaan, Sodium hypo ...

Dear ruaan,

Sodium hypo chloride has a  higher pH of around 8-11and water typically has a pH of 7.5-8.Calcium hypochlorite is an inorganic compound with formula Ca(ClO)2. As a mixture with lime and calcium chloride, it is marketed as chlorine powder or bleach powder for water treatment and as a bleaching agent has the potential to occur when hypochlorite is injected into a dilution stream, which is subsequently piped to the point(s) of applicationyou should be able to remove the deposits, from limited areas, with an acidic solution. For removing this hard scale use acidic water.Try equal parts of muriatic acid and water: add the acid to the water and wear eye protection and rubber gloves. If the entire is scaled over, you probably will have to drop the pH to approximately 6 and keep it there for a while. Use the brush to help loosen the deposits. In addition, you should deal with the underlying causes. Make sure that the pH is not above 7.6 and is closer to 7.2.
